90. Overcoming noise
More often than not, we hear a sound in the background of other sounds. We ought to focus on the target sound and figure out the meaning of others. How much noise can we tolerate to get the meaning of sound? It varies a great deal and can be anywhere from 0 dB SNR to -20 dB SNR [Signal-to-Noise Ratio], depending on several factors such as the signal overlap between the target and background and the degree of distraction. Our hearing is incredibly resilient to noise, so we manage to seek the target in adverse listening situations.
